KMYA Expands to West Bend Area High Schools

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation, Inc. is expanding its successful Hartford/Slinger High School airplane build and leadership program to the West Bend Airport. West Bend area high school-aged youth are encouraged to let their dreams take flight in this exciting STEM based opportunity.

Learning through Doing

Through participation in the Aviation Club you will learn how to rivet, measure, cut, bend and shape aluminum into a real aircraft. The RV-12 seats two and cruises at 130 mph. It's capable of traveling up to 500 miles non-stop. The building process is a TEAM endeavor, and through hands on experience you will learn to work with others in a collaborative way to achieve an ambitious goal: Building and flying a real aircraft!

KMYA hosts speakers and field trips to educate students regarding aviation-related career opportunities available to young adults. Students also practice scenario-based flights on a flight simulator and learn about the principles of aviation. If KMYA students are interested in earning their Sports Pilot License, a club-owned 1941 J-3 Cub aircraft is available for flight training at reduced rates.

The new Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation build site is located at the West Bend Airport. EAA chapter 1158 has generously offered to host and provide support for this program and is undergoing a remodel to accommodate the build facility with classrooms and build times that will start this month as follows:

West Bend KMYA Program Start Date:

The West Bend KMYA build sessions will begin Sunday September 10th, 2023 from 5-8pm and Monday September 11th, 2023 from 6-8pm.
