Wisconsin High School Students Learning Life Skills Through the Cooperative Effort of Building a Van's RV12iS

Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation, Inc. (KMYA) was founded by Lawrence Sullivan and Howard Kaney in February 2020 to fund and provide space for our youth build program.

We are building at sites in Hartford and West Bend, WI. The program is a cooperative effort of our 501(c)(3), West Bend EAA Chapter 1158, Cub Air Flight School, and Hartford, Slinger and West Bend High Schools. Our mission is to teach life skills and build character in youth through the rigors and team effort of constructing an RV-12iS Light Sport Aircraft. In addition, we expose students to careers in Aviation and/or other STEM related fields and offer

subsidized flight training for those so motivated.

EAA Airventure 2026

The annual EAA Airventure camping trip was notable for another exceptional group of students, the annual Taco Tuesday hosted once again by the Waukesha EAA chapter, and the spectacular Wednesday night airshow. The KMYA students exhibited a strong bond from the start mentoring the new students to smoothly navigate what could easily be an overwhelming experience at the EAA pop-up city of approximately 600,000 aviation enthusiasts from all over the world. KMYA Open House & Award Ceremony

The KMYA Hartford Open House and awards ceremony took place on May 30, 2026. Young eagle flights were offered and 12 students got their first ride in a small airplane. Current team members introduced interested students and parents to our hanger and the current build project. Zach and Quinn Lobert received Builder of the Year honors. KMYA Accepting Applications for 2026/27

We're now accepting applications for the 2026/27 Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation build year. We'll be taking 15 KMYA students camping at EAA Airventure July 21-23rd and the build sessions for our sixth build season will resume at the end of August. We look forward to another successful build season and look forward to welcoming new members!
